I find the key that unlocks all doors today…

I’ve been writing my daily intentions on my bathroom mirror. If you look closely, you can also see the key necklace I’m wearing.

I returned back home a little over 2 weeks ago after a month of traveling. I had rented out my apartment to assist with my finances which also gave me some freedom to see family and friends while also making some new Spread Goodness® connections in Chicago and along the East Coast. When I got back to California, I was returning to a new normal. My schedule was finally freeing up after almost 14 years of feeling consumed by a business I built and loved like it was my first child. I had been dreaming of having more time to find myself again, express myself creatively, devote to new passions and just LIVE. As my dream finally came true, I realized I had all this unstructured time that I had to find a way to start organizing.

I struggled with some guilt of actually having some free time, but I have been promising myself that I would break some old patterns, create more balance in my life, and prioritize honoring myself before the work I do. I’m still learning how to strike the balance while staying productive, because like before, I have a big vision and goals to achieve in order to build it. So for the past week, I have been trying to build in daily routines. I have to be honest, that’s not easy for me. As a creative person, I have resisted structure throughout my life, but now I’m craving it. It just doesn’t come naturally to me. So I’m starting small and building as I go.

One routine I’ve built in this past year is meditation. I have found meditation to be a life changer. I notice how much more aligned and in tune with the universe I feel on days when I meditate. Of course I might miss a day here and there, but I find it works best when I choose to do it first thing in the morning for 20 minutes, before I get distracted by a big to do list or feel like I don’t have the time to fit it in. This week, I decided to add “setting an intention” to my daily practices. Today, Friday, was the first day I actually did it. I was inspired by a “key” necklace that I often wear, a special and meaningful gift that was given to me almost 2 years ago. I wrote on my mirror, with a dry erase marker, “I find the key that unlocks all doors today!!” And sure enough, I had what felt like a magical day and things just seemed to come together and open up to me. I unexpectedly made some interesting connections, worked in a gorgeous space with extremely friendly staff, and topped my day off seeing The Biggest Little Farm with a friend. This documentary follows a couple who develop their dream of creating a sustainable farm. It addressed so many relevant themes in my life right now and opened me up more to a fresh perspective on my own life and the synergistic alliance with the world around me. It was the perfect way to wrap up my day.

What are some of your daily routines that keep you balanced and help you show up with your best self? If you set intentions, please share some of YOUR favorites? I look forward to building a conversation with you that reflects ways we can all spread goodness in the world, the importance and impact of doing so, and also (and possibly most importantly) HOW we can PREPARE OURSELVES to have what WE NEED to give generously. Please share how you do this in the comments below!
